Marquette swimmers sweep meet from Kingsford

MARQUETTE — Marquette boys swimmers Liam McFarren and Colin VanderSchaaf continue their perfect seasons, not having lost an event yet as the Redmen and Redettes defeated Kingsford in a dual meet held Tuesday at the MSHS pool.

The boys won 143-27 and girls came out on top 110-68.

Both VanderSchaaf and McFarren won two individual events and swam with two relays — the 200-yard medley and 200 freestyle relays. VanderSchaaf won the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke, while McFarren appended the 50 free and 500 free.

Teammate Maverick Baldwin along with the Redettes’ Grace Sobczak won three events each. Baldwin took the boys 200 individual medley and swam with the 200 medley and 400 free relays. Sobczak won the girls 100 free and swam with the same two relays in the girls meet.

Five more Marquette swimmers were double winners.

For the boys, Andon Buyarski won the 100 free, while he and Hobey Mason both swam with the 400 free relay winners. Manson also swam a leg in the winning 200 free relay.

For the girls, Lexi LaCombe won the 50 free and Delaney Marchiol the 100 fly, while both swam with the victorious 200 medley relay. Teammate Elena Henry won the 200 free and swam with the 400 free relay winners.

Single individual event winners included Jackson O’Connor in the boys 200 free, Hunter Symbal in the boys diving, Andrew King in the boys 100 backstroke and Kali McDonough in the girls diving.

Single relay winners were the boys’ Mason Doan, Bobby Caron and Alex Gooch and the girls’ Kelsey Glover, Maddie Wood and Hannah Winn.

Kingsford won four events in the girls meet. Adalde McRoberts took the 100 breast and 200 IM, Samantha Scott the 100 back and both were on the Flivvers’ winning 200 free relay team.

The Redmen and Redettes host Houghton at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
