Westwood Patriots girls swimmers leave Manistique in their wake

ISHPEMING — Westwood won 10 of 12 events to easily streak to a 134-33 victory over Manistique in a high school girls swimming and diving meet held at the Patriots’ pool on Thursday.

A boys meet score of 85-0 in favor of Manistique showed no swimmers entered for Westwood.

The Patriots had a pair of four-time winners in the girls meet — Baylie LaVigne won the 200-yard individual medley and 100 butterfly, while Elizabeth Williams took the 100 freestyle and 500 free, and each swam with the victorious 200 medley and 200 free relays.

Tripling up was teammate Maggie Boburka as she won the 100 breaststroke along with joining LaVigne and Williams in their winning relays.

Westwood’s Sarina Maki was a double winner in the 200 medley and 400 free relays, while Avery Mariuzza won diving and Lucy Howe the 200 free.

Picking up a relay win were teammates Kalle Keranen, Samantha Perrault and Leisa Warshawsky.

Manistique’s Carley Schoenow accounted for both Emeralds wins in the 50 free and 100 backstroke.
