MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University has set dates and times for its men’s and women’s basketball games this season.

Well, at least for every game except four during the final two weeks of the season in the latter half of February.

That’s according to the schedules posted at the NMU sports website, www.nmuwildcats.

com.

Each Northern team opens the season on Saturday, Jan. 9, against Wisconsin-Parkside. In a change in scheduling this season, while one GLIAC team is at home, that school’s corresponding men’s or women’s team will play the same opponent on the road.

In NMU’s case against Parkside, the men will be at home at the Berry Events Center at 1 p.m., while the women play at 8 p.m. EST in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Previously in late November, the league had announced a “soft” schedule where opponents and a range of dates had been announced.

For example, it was known that NMU would play Parkside between Jan. 7-10 and that the men would be at home and women on the road. But neither an exact date nor a time had been determined then.

Now that’s been decided.

All games to be played in January and February are league games, two against each GLIAC team for 18 total in the 10-school league.

Back in November, the league mentioned that nonconference games could be arranged by individual schools to be played in December or the first weekend of January, but very few were scheduled — no women’s games at all, while for the men, Ferris State has four games and Purdue Northwest one.

The other major change in the GLIAC schedule is that nearly all games will be part of two-game weekend series at the same site, much like college hockey teams do such as the Wildcats.

The exception for NMU will be with its traveling partner, Michigan Tech, with games against the Huskies to be single midweek contests, one at home and one away, spaced about three weeks apart.

Except for the MTU games and one other women’s game late in the season, all Northern home games will be played at 1 p.m. And all the two-game series except the women’s final series will be played on Saturdays and Sundays.

The individual Michigan Tech home games will be played at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

As far as road games go, they will be nearly evenly split between Friday-Saturday and Saturday-Sunday with a variety of game times both in the afternoon and evening.

Not all dates coincide as some series are Friday-Saturday for one team and Saturday-Sunday for the other.
