KINGSFORD — Max Dawson and Nick Lindberg provided more than enough offense to power Marquette Senior High School to a 6-0 whitewashing at Kingsford in a high school boys soccer game played Tuesday evening.

Despite the great defense, Coach Dan Salmon had to be heartened by his goal-scoring combination as Dawson registered a three-goal hat trick with Lindberg assisting on each one before adding a late goal of his own to round out the scoring.

“Offensively, Nick Lindberg was almost unstoppable,” the first-year Redmen head coach said. “That combination with him and Max came up big…. Our defensive mid(fielder)s of Evan Sysko, John Weber, Lewis Goff and Hayden Byma controlled the game with very strong play.”

MSHS (2-0-1) allowed just a half-dozen Flivver shots, one coming in the first half that senior goaltender Liam Jeevar stopped and five more in the second half when junior Harrison Anthos came on to safely knock away.

Dawson opened the scoring, taking a cross from Lindberg about seven minutes in before Lindberg then found freshman Ethan Sandstrom with another pass about four minutes later to make it 2-0.

Lindberg distributed the ball to Dawson again, giving the latter a chip-in shot he converted. Before halftime, junior Axel Vermaat scored off a corner kick as fellow junior Enzo Stabile earned the assist to make it 4-0 at the break.

The Lindberg-to-Dawson combo worked one more time for the opening goal of the second half, then Lindberg finished off the scoring with a pass from Sandstrom for the final margin.

These two teams were to face each other again Thursday night back in Marquette.
