Negaunee Miners girls tennis team slides past Ishpeming, 8-0

NEGAUNEE — Negaunee had little trouble slipping past Ishpeming 8-0 on Tuesday to move to 3-0 for the high school girls tennis season.

The Miners lost just four games in the eight flights.

“As we string meets together, (the) girls are getting more and more comfortable with their flight and their own games,” NHS coach Kyle Saari said. “We’ve emphasized our feet a lot and we’ve done a better job moving around since last week.”

The No. 2 doubles team of Shayla Williams and Tianna Williams and No. 3 doubles tandem of Emma Miller and Madi Austin each won 6-1, 6-1. The Hematites’ opponents were Jocelynn Nyman and Lilly Swanson at No. 2 doubles and Addison Morton and Jenna Maki at No. 3.

“Shayla and Tianna give us a lot of experience at (No.) 2 doubles and they have good chemistry there,” Saari said.

Negaunee continues its four-day stretch of matches with a road meet at Gladstone at 11 a.m. today before being scheduled to play in the Westwood Invitational on Thursday.
