Westwood Patriots’ Tessa Leece tops Mid-Peninsula Conference girls hoops
NEGAUNEE — Led by senior guard Tessa Leece being named Player of the Year, four Westwood players landed five girls basketball honors when the Mid-Peninsula Conference named its award winners recently.
The Patriots were also winners of the conference with an 11-1 record, a game ahead of Negaunee’s 10-2 mark. Westwood also improved to 22-2 overall on Tuesday night with an MHSAA Division 3 regional semifinal win over Calumet.
Leece also earned a berth on the M-PC All-Defensive Team.
Senior teammate Madelyn Koski, a guard, was named to the First Team, while senior forward Karlie Patron and sophomore forward Natalie Prophet earned spots on the Second Team.
Three Negaunee players earned a total of four awards. Senior guard Chloe Norman made both the First Team and All-Defensive Team, while sophomore forward Alyssa Hill was another First Team recipient. Honorable mention went out to sophomore guard Lilly Nelson.
Gwinn also had three players earn four awards. Senior guard-forward Marissa Delmont won a spot on the First Team, while senior guard-forward Emily Curtice earned positions on both the Second Team and All-Defensive Team. In addition, junior forward-center Tianna Taylor was honorable mention.

Second Team — Maddie Ahlgren, sr., Gladstone
Honorable mention — Andie Balenger, sr., Gladstone; Reagan Lundholm, sr., Iron Mountain
