Gwinn girls stuff Iron Mountain

IRON MOUNTAIN — Lady Mountaineers sophomore Annslee Runsat netted a game high 18 points, but the Gwinn Modletowners prevailed, defeating Iron Mountain 51-36 Tuesday night in a dual West PAC and Mid-Peninsula conference tilt.

Emily Curtice with 17 points, and Marissa Delmont with 14 points, led the way for the Modletowners. Claire Mongrain chipped in 11 points for the Mountaineers in the losing effort.

It was senior night at the Mountaineer gymnasium, as head coach Katelynn Grenier honored her three seniors prior to the game, Reagan Lundholm, Tori Sorensen and Maddie Sardina.

“Overall I thought the girls played well tonight. We had a really good second and third quarter but had a hard time getting off to a good start,” said Grenier. “Gwinn is physical and we aren’t used to being that physical, so that’s something we have to adjust to better.”

Grenier noted that Runsat played well in the game and was aggressive on offense and rebounding.

“Claire (Mongrain) did a really nice job of jumping the pass tonight. She had 4 steals and she hit some big shots for us when we needed them,” Grenier said. “Reagan Lundholm made an appearance to shoot a layup from her wheelchair and that was my favorite moment of the night. I would like to thank Ben Olsen for allowing me to do that for my senior tonight.”

Gwinn, who improves to 13-6 on the season, travels to dual conference foe Westwood on Thursday night, to complete their regular season. Iron Mountain, who slips to 2-17 on the season, travels to Gladstone on the same night for Mid Peninsula conference action and their regular season finale.

The Mountaineers won the JV won 46-6. Freshman Callie Bianco led all scorers with 17 points.
