Northern Michigan University Wildcats women’s track team sets record, honors seniors at Northern Challenge

MARQUETTE — The Wildcats women’s indoor track and field team set a school relay record while honoring its seniors during the Northern Challenge home meet held in the Superior Dome on Saturday.

NMU’s highlight on the track was set by the 4-by-200-meter relay team that clocked 1 minute, 45.03 seconds with juniors Izabelle Peterson, a Marquette Senior High School graduate, and Lauren Alarie, freshman Maria de Mingo Domenech and senior Megan Martin.

The Wildcats won 15 of 16 races in the women’s meet that was also attended by the Copper Country Track Club.

Northern honored its seven seniors — Martin, Megan Bauer, Paige Du Bois, Victoria Harris of Iron River, Katelyn Smith, Hanna Torvi and Sydney McPeters.

The team heads to the Saginaw Valley State-hosted Jet’s Pizza Invitational at University Center on Friday and Saturday.
