Marquette Redette girls fall to Calumet Copper Kings, 62-47

CALUMET — After getting their nine-game winning streak snapped earlier this week by Sault Ste. Marie, the Marquette girls basketball team tried to bounce back Wednesday against Calumet.

The Redettes led by two after the first quarter, but Calumet started to find its grove in the second and didn’t look back on its way to a 62-47 win. Maria Millado led Marquette (9-4) with 15 points, while Aspen Michelin had 13. Marybeth Halonen was Calumet’s (8-3) offensive leader as she had 21 points, while Elli Djerf had 19.

Marquette led 14-12 heading into the second quarter, but was outscored 19-10 in the period. Calumet built its advantage to 48-34 after the third and cruised in the fourth to hand the Redettes their second straight loss.

The Redettes won the JV game 41-39. Marquette hosts Menominee Friday.
