Munising girls basketball team sprints past Superior Central, 68-31

MUNISING — The Munising girls basketball team has been struggling to get a good start in each game this season. It happened again Wednesday night against Superior Central.

However, the Mustangs recovered quickly and got good games from the Matson sisters, Megan and Jenna, for a 68-31 win. Megan had 30 points and 10 rebounds, while Jenna had 16 points as Crystal Murdock chipped in with 12 points.

Charlotte Charlebois was the Cougars’ leader with 10 points.

SC took a quick lead, but Munising rallied and led 20-11 after one quarter. Then the Mustangs blew the game open in the second, outscoring the Cougars 18-4 in the quarter and taking a 38-15 advantage into the half.

“Our first two games, we didn’t start well, so we called a timeout and gathered ourselves and then we played pretty well,” MHS coach Matt Mattson said.

“Megan had 27 points in the last game and 30 tonight, so she’s finding herself a little bit. Jenna also had a nice night. She’s our point guard.”

Munising won the JV game 38-20. SC travels to Rapid River Friday, while the Mustangs aren’t in action again until Tuesday when they host Brimley.
