Northern Michigan University swimmers, divers host Wisconsin-Stevens Point today

MARQUETTE — The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams from Northern Michigan University will host Wisconsin-Stevens Point at 2 p.m. today at the PEIF pool.

Both men’s and women’s Wildcat teams lost at Grand Valley State and defeated Saginaw Valley State last weekend.

Numerous swimmers on both teams are ranked in the top 10 in NCAA Division II with their times.

Senior women’s swimmer Rachel Helm leads the country in the 100 backstroke in 54.99 seconds and is second in the 200 back in 2:00.61. Two Wildcats are ranked in the women’s 1,650-yard freestyle — Maria Arakelian is sixth in 17:38.65, while Nicola Pasquire is eighth in 17:46.10.

Men’s freshman Ondrej Zach is second in the 1,650 free and sixth in the 1,000 in 9:29.05. Freshman Ivan Amillo Escobedo is fourth in the men’s 100 free in 45.08 and eighth in the 100 free in 1:40.96. Freshman Robert Camera is third in the men’s 50 breaststroke in 26.39 and fourth in the 100 breast in 55.83. Senior Lajos Budai is fourth in the men’s 100 backstroke in 49.26, while freshman Erikaas Kapocius is fourth in the men’s 400 individual medley in 4:02.81.

In diving, freshman Amanda Baird is second in the women’s one-meter with 268.75 points and sophomore Mary Grossman fifth with 251.60. In three-meter, Baird is fifth with 241.30 and Grossman seventh with 233.75. In addition, senior Jaime Kimble is 10th with 226.05 in the latter event.

For the men, freshman Ryan Leach is 10th in the three-meter with 213.60.
