Northern Michigan University volleyball keeps busy today, Saturday at Conference Crossover

MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan University volleyball team has a busy weekend with three matches today and Saturday at the Midwest Region Volleyball Conference Crossover in Indianapolis.

The event, held at The Academy Volleyball Club, brings together teams from the GLIAC, Great Lakes Valley Conference and Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

NMU (7-10) faces Missouri-St. Louis (17-2) of the GLVC at 2:30 p.m. today, Illinois-Springfield (12-7) of the GLVC at 10 a.m. Saturday and Cedarville (10-6) of the GMAC at 4 p.m. Saturday.

UMSL has received votes in NCAA Division II top 25 rankings, while UIS reached the NCAA tournament in 2018.

The Wildcats split a pair of matches at Vandament Arena last weekend, falling in five sets to Ashland and winning in three sets against Wayne State.

Northern features two of the top hitters in the GLIAC. Sophomore Lizzy Stark is fourth in kills with 247 and kills per sets with 3.74, while freshman Abigail Durecki is fifth in hitting percentage at .319 with just 42 errors in 360 attempts.

Durecki and senior teammate Sarah Kuehn are ranked in blocks, Kuehn third with 59 total and fourth with 0.88 per set, while Durecki’s 49 is ninth as she averages 0.72 per set.

In addition, freshman Lauren Van Remortel has made 636 assists, 131 digs and 12 service aces, while sophomores Lauren Caprini and Alli Yacko each have 13 aces with Caprini totalling 225 digs and Yacko 190.
