RAPID RIVER — Manistique freshman Clara Gilroy ran the 3.1-mile course in 23 minutes, 17.82 seconds to finish third in the girls meet of the Rapid River Invitational high school cross country meet Saturday.

Daisy Englund of Mid Peninsula won that race in 20:49.24 as the Wolverines also won the girls meet with 32 points. Superior Central was sixth with 162 and the Emeralds seventh with 185.

Also for the girls, SC’s Maddie Begovac was seventh in 23:38.79.

In the boys meet, Manistique’s Grant Mason was 10th in 20:10.97 as Escanaba junior Derek Douglas won in 18:17.48.

Rudyard won that boys title with 30 as Manistique was fifth with 137 and SC didn’t field a full team.
