The Wildcats opened the season by splitting a pair of road games in Minnesota last weekend, losing to Minnesota-Duluth 1-0 and beating St. Cloud State 2-0.

NMU junior goalkeeper Brianna Frontuto totaled 12 saves and had the shutout, her saves putting her second in the GLIAC. She’s also fourth with a .923 save percentage. Against St. Cloud, Frontuto had six saves, including one on a penalty kick that helped set up her team’s final goal.

Seniors Jamie Montgomery and Kaitlynn Benson scored Northern’s goals, each on assists from sophomore Natalie Stampfly, after a scoreless first half.

NMU is seeking its first win ever over Winona (0-1 this season), while the Northwood match is nonleague encounter against a GLIAC foe as the Wildcats are 14-10-3 all-time vs. the Timberwolves (1-1).
