Northern Michigan University Wildcats win 3rd volleyball match in a row, Michigan Tech on deck

GRAND RAPIDS — The Northern Michigan University volleyball team is hitting its stride at just the right time with a trip to play at Michigan Tech looming at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The Wildcats won their third straight match in four sets at Davenport on Saturday, 21-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-23. NMU improved to 5-5 overall and 2-0 in the GLIAC after opening league play over the weekend. DU is 2-8 and 0-2.

Freshman Abigail Durecki and sophomore teammate Lizzy Stark led the way with 12 kills apiece, while sophmore Hailey Wickstrom had 10. Durecki also posted a hitting percentage of .476 and had three service aces. Freshman Lauren Van Remortel finished with 36 assists.

Sophomore Lauren Caprini was defensive leader with 14 digs, while Van Remortel added nine and sophomore Alli Yacko eight.

Senior Sarah Kuehn finished with seven blocks as Durecki had six and Wickstrom four.

The NMU-MTU match is scheduled to be televised at 7 p.m. Tuesday by Fox-U.P., with coverage shifting to Grit TV at 8 p.m., according to a spokesman at WLUC-TV6 of Negaunee.
