MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team returns home for games Friday and Saturday afternoons at the NMU Soccer Field.

The first game will be an attempt at quick revenge against Wisconsin-Parkside at 4 p.m. Friday after the Rangers defeated NMU 2-1 last weekend. With both games against GLIAC foes but considered nonconference matchups, the second contest is vs. Purdue Northwest at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Northern junior goalkeeper Brianna Frontuto leads the GLIAC with 27 saves, averaging more than five saves per match.

Five players have scored goals this season for NMU. Senior Jamie Montgomery, who scored the team’s only goal against Parkside, has two goals.

Senior Kaitlynn Benson, junior Isabela Cardoso, sophomore Natalie Stampfly and freshman Evelyn Flor each have a goal.

Sophomore Caroline Halonen paces the Wildcats with 19 shots this season, which places her fifth in the league. Her 10 shots on goal also ranks fifth, while her 3.80 shots per match is fourth. Halonen led the team with nine goals last season but enters this weekend seeking her first goal of 2019. Halonen is currently tied for the team’s lead with two assists.

Parkside (3-3 this season) leads the all-time series vs. NMU 4-1-1, though the Rangers have won the last two meetings by one goal each time.

NMU leads PNW (1-3-1) 2-1 all-time and has outscored the Pride 8-1 in those games. Last season, NMU won 3-0 and lost 1-0.
