ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming girls tennis team put up its best fight in several singles flights as visiting West Iron County scored an 8-0 shutout in a high school girls tennis meet held Thursday.

The Wykons’ Kali Dennis had to hold on for a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles over the Hematites’ Ella Luke. In addition, WIC’s Livea Mazurek won a 6-0, 6-3 decision at No. 1 singles over Tia Mattila.

The closest battle in doubles came at No. 3, where West Iron’s Aurora Dahl and Madison Berutti won a 6-0, 6-4 decision over Ishpeming’s Ella DeMarios and Emily Vial.

In the other five flights, WIC lost a total of five games.

The Hematites are back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they host Gwinn.
