Negaunee Miners’ Rylee Ring, Westwood Patriots’ Tyler Annala tops from area at West PAC golf meet

IRON MOUNTAIN — Nathan Thomson and the entire West Iron County golf program seem to enjoy playing at the challenging TimberStone Golf Course.

The Wykons dominated the West PAC tournament Tuesday, sweeping team and medalist honors for both the girls and boys.

Tori Bociek and Iron Mountain’s Anna Pirkola each shot 93 to lead the girls. In a one-hole playoff, Bociek claimed medalist status.

From area teams, Negaunee’s Rylee Ring shot 102 while for Westwood, Haley Mattila had 122.

Thomson led the boys with a 5-over par 77, followed by teammates Trey Bociek and Noah Thomson at 80. Houghton’s Jiseung Choi also carded an 80.

From area schools, Westwood’s Tyler Annala had 85, Negaunee’s Jackson Gladwell 91 and L’Anse’s Johnny Mantilla 97.

WIC boys tallied a 325 to 353 for runner-up Houghton. Negaunee was sixth with 396 and Westwood seventh with 410.

For the girls, Coach Mark Martini’s Wykons registered a 425 to 474 for second-place Houghton. Negaunee tied for third with 481, while Westwood was fifth with 535.
