ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — The Northern Michigan University women’s lacrosse team won its second straight GLIAC road contest with a 13-3 victory at Lewis University on Sunday afternoon.

NMU improved to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the GLIAC after its first-ever league road win at Maryville on March 24. This marks the first time in the program’s three-year history that the Wildcats have won three games overall and two games in the GLIAC.

Sophomore Bianca Kinder led NMU’s offense on Sunday with four goals and an assist while she forced one turnover and finished with a team-best five draw controls.

Junior teammate Angelica Bogden scoring a goal and added three assists, while sophomore Ellie Bahr and freshmen Emily Renfrew and Jessica Daniels each scored two goals. Renfrew also had three draw controls.

Wildcats sophomore Tess Kostelec and junior Graison Ringlever each had one goal.

Northern freshman goalkeeper Cam Stilson finished with six saves.

Kinder had all four of her goals in NMU’s big first half as the Wildcats took a 11-1 lead at the break.

Northern scored the first 10 goals, starting with Kinder netting one just 56 seconds in and Bahr adding another only 22 seconds later. Bogden assisted on each goal.

NMU scored twice more before the game was three minutes old off unassisted goals by Daniels and Renfrew.

When Kinder scored her third goal with just under five minutes remaining in the first half, Northern led 10-0. The onslaught included a goal by Ringlever, her team-leading 22nd of the season.

Lewis (1-5, 1-4) scored with 1:42 left, but Kinder responded with a goal 35 seconds before the break on a free position shot.

Bogden scored two minutes into the second half before Renfrew made it 13-1 with 6:04 gone. Lewis added its final two goals in the game’s last six minutes on goals by Brittany Scharff.

NMU continues GLIAC action Friday with a trip to Concordia-St. Paul on Friday night. The Wildcats will partner with CSP at that game to raise awareness and funds through the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation’s Vs. Cancer program.

In the partnership, the NMU lacrosse team selected the pediatric oncology unit at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse, New York, to receive a portion of funds the Wildcats raise.

“We applaud the efforts and generous spirit of the Northern Michigan University Women’s Lacrosse team,” said Bob McNamara, director of the Pediatric Brian Tumor Foundation’s Central region. “Vs. Cancer wasn’t just built by athletes for athletes. We were started by a pediatric brain cancer survivor, and we see every day how important family support and research are for children to thrive.

“With the support of this incredible team, we’re fighting for healthier, happier futures for these kids.”

Vs. Cancer was started by pediatric brain cancer survivor and former college baseball player Chase Jones.
