NMU lacrosse ends road trip with loss to Concordia St. Paul

By Journal Sports Staff

ST. PAUL, Minn. — After picking up two straight road victories, the Northern Michigan University women’s lacrosse team ended its four-game trip on a low note as the Wildcats fell to Concordia St. Paul (Minn.) 21-9 on Friday.

NMU junior Graison Ringlever led the way offensively with four goals and an assist, giving her 99 career points. She also had five draw controls. Freshmen Aleya Speas and Emily Renfrew had two goals apiece, while sophomore Ellie Bahr had one.

Shannon Walus and Jessica Close both notched two ground balls and goalie Cam Stilson made 11 saves.

The Wildcats fell behind 3-0 in the first half before Speas got a feed from Ringlever and scored to get them on the board. After the Golden Bears scored two more, Ringlever and Bahr both found the back of the net and Northern trailed only 5-3.

Later in the half, NMU tied the game up at 5-5. Ringlever scored her second goal at the 17:16 mark and Renfrew tallied her first a minute later.

Ringlever picked up her third goal with 7:40 left, but the Golden Bears held a 10-6 advantage at the half.

CSP notched two goals to open up the second half before Ringlever answered back with her fourth goal.

The Golden Bears weren’t shaken though as they fired in six straight goals to take control of the game. Speas stopped the bleeding with 16:16 remaining on her second goal of the game and Renfrew picked up her second with 5:30 left, but the deficit was far too large to overcome.

The Wildcats return home this week and will face the Golden Bears in a rematch Wednesday at the Superior Dome.
