Karissa Guthrie leads Northern Michigan University women’s golf team to 4th at Grand Valley

ALLENDALE — Senior Karissa Guthrie led the Northern Michigan University women’s golf team to a fourth-place finish at the 13-team Gilda’s Club Lakers Fall Invitational hosted by Grand Valley State.

The Wildcats finished with a 646 total for five golfers in the two-day tournament that ended Sunday at The Meadows in Allendale. Indianapolis won with 610, Grand Valley was runner-up with 617 and Missouri-St. Louis was third with 641. Tiffin, Wayne State, Davenport, Northwood, Ashland, Lake Superior State, Ferris State, Saginaw Valley State and Walsh trailed the Wildcats.

Guthrie was eighth individually with rounds of 75 and 79 for a 154 total. She missed first place by just three shots as Indy’s Kennedy Holtsclaw and GVSU’s Olivia Reed and Katie Chipman each shot 151.

Following Guthrie for the Wildcats was senior Haley Hewer, tied for 15th with 78-82–160; junior Caro Els, tied for 23rd with 79-85–164; freshman Abbie Boozer, tied for 44th with 88-83–171; and senior Baylee Dunmire, also tied for 44th with 85-86–171.

Wildcats freshman Gianna Gastrow was also listed as an unattched golfer as she totaled 89-95–184.

NMU will go for its third straight top-five performance on Sunday and Monday at the Beall Fall Classic at Findlay, Ohio.
