Redettes soccer team wins 2 of 3 in Wisconsin

WAUPACA, Wis. — The Marquette Senior High School traveled to Wisconsin for the Comet Soccer Invitational on Saturday, playing three games against Badger State teams and winning two of them.

The Redettes opened against a tough Sauk Prairie team and lost 1-0 on a goal scored with eight minutes left on MSHS goalie Jasmine Burke.

Ivy Pickard scored the lone goal in the middle contest, a 1-0 victory over Eagle River Northland Pines. Marquette teammate Bridget Pliska assisted.

The Redettes completed play against the home team, Waupaca, and won 3-1.

Marquette’s Lauren Kurzawa scored the opening goal and assisted on the second. Her goal was assisted by Pickard, while Kurzawa then passed across the front of the net for Kayley Elmblad to score MSHS goal No. 2.

Then in the final 10 minutes, the Redettes added insurance with a goal by Sydney McCarthy assisted by Pickard.

Marquette plays at Iron Mountain at 7 p.m. EDT Tuesday.
