3 Northern Michigan University women at NCAA Division II outdoor finals in track & field

MARQUETTE — Three Northern Michigan University senior women athletes begin the final meet of the season today at the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The meet, which runs through Saturday, will see the Wildcats compete in four events, led by Kameron Burmeister of Menominee in the 5,000- and 10,000-meter runs. She is ranked 13th nationally in the 10,000 and 19th in the 5,000.

Ine Mylle return to the national meet after finishing 14th in the triple jump a year ago. Her triple jump is ranked 12th in the nation this spring.

And in her first season in track and field after a stellar nordic skiing career at NMU, Vivian Hett will compete in the 3,000 steeplechase as she ranks 18th in the country with her best time.

All three are competing for All-American honors with the top eight earning First Team and next four Second Team.

Hett will compete first with the preliminaries of the steeplechase at 7:10 p.m. today and the finals at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Burmeister will run the 10,000 at 8:50 p.m. today and 5,000 at 6:35 p.m. Saturday, while Mylle will triple jump at 4:45 p.m. Friday.
