Upper Peninsula high school swimming and diving finals Friday, Saturday

MARQUETTE — The Upper Peninsula boys and girls high school swimming and diving finals kick off on Friday afternoon with the diving competition at Marquette Senior High School.

The majority of the meet will be held Saturday when all swimming events will be held.

Diving begins with the girls competition at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the MSHS pool, with the 22 swimming events — 11 boys and 11 girls — to open at 10 a.m. Saturday at the high school pool. Swim events alternate between boys and girls, with girls events also going first in the swimming part of the meet.

Organizers expect the diving to last about two hours and the swimming about five hours.

Admission each day is $10 per person to be paid at the door.

Nine U.P. programs are expected to be represented — Marquette, Ishpeming-Negaunee, Westwood, Manistique, Gladstone, Houghton, Kingsford, Rudyard and Sault Ste. Marie.

Meeting the qualifying standards for the meet are 163 swimmers and divers. Each event has listed between six and 18 qualifiers.
