Munising Mustangs girls basketball team overcomes early shooting woes to down Superior Central

MUNISING — The Munising girls basketball team overcame an off-shooting night to defeat Superior Central 56-37 Wednesday night and improve to 4-0.

Kianne Wendt led the Mustangs with 29 points and nine rebounds, while Emma Rondeau had 13 points and nine boards for the Cougars.

The game was tight throughout the first two quarters and SC led the Mustangs by one point at the half, 22-21. However in the second half, Munising started to click offensively and it outscored the Cougars 35-15 after the intermission.

“We were ice cold from the outside,” Mustangs head coach Matt Mattson said. “We couldn’t throw it into the ocean. Superior Central had a great came plan and they were ready to play. They scored 16 points in the second quarter and sometimes we don’t give up that in a half. Kianne played very well, though, and you really can’t complain when someone gets 29 points.”

Munising also won the JV game 39-32. SC plays at Rapid River Friday, while the Mustangs don’t play again until Friday, Dec. 15, when they host North Central.
