Marquette Senior High School Redettes bow out in district volleyball opener
PETOSKEY — Marquette Senior High School bowed out of the MHSAA postseason tournament in its opening match on Tuesday night, falling in the Class A district that is being hosted by Alpena.
The Redettes traveled to Petoskey in this nontraditional-format district, where the first round matches were played at the gym of one of the teams involved in the match.
The rest of the district — semifinals and finals — will be contested at Alpena High School on Saturday morning and afternoon.
On Tuesday, Petoskey prevailed 25-11, 25-15, 25-11.
“We started out the match with a lead and played tough up to (a tie score of) 10-10,” MSHS head coach Mike Morgan said. “After Petoskey had a long run on serve, we were never able to gain any rhythm.
“It was a disappointing way to end the year for our seniors. We cannot come into a match with a quality opponent and not play our best.
“I want to thank this great group of student athletes for a great year.”
Marquette was led statistically by Lauren Wilkinson with 14 digs, Chloe Hale with 15 assists, Aspen Michelin with five kills, Ellie Hicks with five blocks and Tayler Myers with one service ace.
