Ishpeming forges 4-4 tie with IM
IRON MOUNTAIN — Ishpeming swept the No. 1 flights but it was only good enough to forge a 4-4 tie with Iron Mountain in a high school girls tennis meet held Wednesday.
The Hematites’ Madison Pruett won her No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-1 over Saylor Swartout, while IHS’ No. 1 doubles tandem of Kassidy Pirkola and Jadyn Andriacchi took a hard-fought 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 victory over Lindsay Morel and Macy McCormick.
The teams split the two other matches that were extended to a third set — Ishpeming’s Audrey Stetson and MaKenzee VanBuren posted a 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-0) win at No. 3 doubles over Olivia Berutti and Katelyn Charette, while IM’s Megan Garvaglia and Riley St. John came out on top at No. 4 doubles over Ellie Mashburn and Alyssa Smith 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
Ishpeming gets back in action with a home meet against Munising at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

At Marquette on Wednesday, the Redettes split the pair of matches that were extended to three sets, but won all the two-setters.
The Redettes’ No. 4 doubles tandem of Emma Melchiori and Natalie Robinia hung in for a 6-1, 6-7 (8-10), 6-4 victory over the Patriots’ Claire Gilles and Ellie Miller.
Westwood got its lone win at No. 1 doubles, with Karlie Kargela and Karlie Patron coming back for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over Rachael Hunt and Ashlee Tripp.
Another relatively close match came at No. 1 singles, where MSHS’ Hannah Swajanen took a 7-6 (11-9), 6-3 win over Marissa Carello.
