Northern Michigan University’s Adam Martin named academic All-American

Adam Martin

MARQUETTE — Following a recent all-district award, a Northern Michigan University Nordic skier has now received an academic all-America award.

Adam Martin was voted to the Academic All-America At-Large First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. This came about a month after he received CoSIDA’s similar Academic All-District At-Large First Team award.

A computer science-mathematics double major, Martin graduated in early May with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. He plans to continue his skiing career with the Craftsbury Green Racing Project.

Martin swept individual titles at the NCAA Central Region Championships and earned All-American honors in the 10-kilometer classic and 20K freestyle at the NCAA Championships. He was also fifth in the skiathlon and 50K freestyle at the U.S. Distance Championships and represented the U.S. at the World Under-23 Ski Championships for the second straight year.

At the end of last season, Martin was the first Wildcat to receive a prestigious NCAA Skiing Elite 90 award, presented to the student-athlete with the highest GPA competing at the finals site of each NCAA championship.
