BREMERHAVEN, Germany — One of the Northern Michigan University hockey team’s key seniors this past season is headed overseas to continue his playing career.

Defenseman Brock Maschmeyer inked a deal with the Fischtown Pinguins of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga on May 30 after a solid four seasons with the Wildcats.

A two-time alternate captain, Maschmeyer ended his NMU career with 68 points (25 goals, 43 assists), including a career-high 21 points last season. He is now seventh among Wildcats defensemen in career goals and 17th in career points.

Maschmeyer was known for being a key part of the Wildcats’ power play as his sharp slapshot resulted in 14 of his goals. He also was one of most durable players on the roster as he played in all 39 games last season and in all 38 in the two previous years.

Maschmeyer also was named to the 2015 All-WCHA Third Team and the 2017 Senior CLASS Award All-American First Team. He will join his brother and fellow defenseman, Bronson, on the Fischtown roster.
