Negaunee Miners boys tennis team fends off Westwood Patriots

NEGAUNEE — The Negaunee boys tennis team earned its eighth win of their season Monday with a 7-1 home victory over Westwood.

Negaunee swept all four singles flights with Eric Hurst, Luke Skewis, Thomas Sertich and Chas Kumpula all winning in two sets each.

The Patriots picked up their lone victory in No. 1 doubles, with Austin Pierpont and Dylan Willey teaming up to down Klay Ronn and Peyton Anderson, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

The Miners took the other three doubles flights, including No. 2 Jakson Sager and Drew Lindberg, No. 3 Jacob Talaga and Darius Provost and No. 4 Jake Larson and Evan Hassell.

“We were really focused today and took some positive steps toward being what we want to be,” Negaunee coach Kyle Saari said. “We were aggressive yet still smart at the right times.

“I think our schedule is set up where we have to improve each day, and we have to keep responding.”

Negaunee (8-0-1) will host West Iron County at 4 p.m. today.
