Negaunee boys, Munising girls win at Munising Invitational high school golf meet

MUNISING — The Negaunee boys and Munising girls carted off titles easily at the Munising Invitational high school golf meet held Monday.

The Negaunee boys beat out runner-up Manistique by 29 strokes, 333 to 362, with Munising third with 391 and Marquette fourth with 408.

The Mustangs had a wider margin in the girls meet, scoring 396 to beat out Manistique by 78 strokes. The Emeralds had 474 and Ishpeming 519.

The winning Miners had the top two individual scorers, too, while the victorious Munising girls had the best three.

Negaunee’s Carter Mason was boys medalist with 75, followed by teammate Jordan Mason with 82. Munising’s Kyle Welters was next with 84, then the Miners’ Keegan Erva and Emeralds’ Louis Berry each with 87.

Marquette’s low scorer was Dylan Robinia with 91.

The Mustangs’ Bailey Downs was hands-down medalist with 84, followed by teammates Taylor Downs with 99 and Frankie Mattson with 104.

Next came Ishpeming’s Desiree Neveau with 105, Munising’s Marissa Immel with 109 and Manistique’s Sydnee MacPhail with 112.
