Mid-Peninsula Conference softball tourney Saturday in Negaunee, Ishpeming

NEGAUNEE — The format for Saturday’s Mid-Peninsula Conference softball single-elimination tournament was announced Thursday afternoon with games in Negaunee and Ishpeming.

Westwood received a bye as the No. 1 seeded team, with the other six conference members playing quarterfinal games. Seedings were based on regular-season finishes.

At 10 a.m., the No. 3 Miners host No. 6 Manistique in Negaunee and the No. 4 Hematites entertain No. 5 Iron Mountain in Ishpeming.

At noon, the final quarterfinal game between No. 2 Norway and No. 7 Gwinn takes place in Negaunee. Also at noon is a semifinal between No. 1 Westwood and the winner of Ishpeming-Iron Mountain.

The other semifinal, pitting the Negaunee-Manistique winner vs. the Gwinn-Norway winner, takes place at 2 p.m. in Negaunee.

The championship is slated for 4 p.m. in Negaunee.
