Rapid River sweeps Superior Central Cougars in softball season-opener
EBEN — The Superior Central High School softball team had a tough opening date against Class D power Rapid River on Thursday, falling 19-0 and 11-1 at home.
Brittany Schwartz didn’t allow a Cougar runner to reach base in the opener over the game’s three innings as teammate Richelle Vandeville was 3 for 3 with five RBIs.
Lexi Trombley limited SC to two hits and a walk in the nightcap. Vandeville, who homered, was among two players going 3 for 3 at the plate.
SC is participating at the Spring Swing in the Superior Dome in Marquette this weekend. The Cougars face Lake Linden-Hubbell at 9:30 p.m. today, then on Saturday go up against Ironwood at 10 a.m. and Stephenson at 4 p.m.
