5 Alger County boys earn Skyline Central Conference basketball honors
ESCANABA — Three Munising and two Superior Central players were named when the Skyline Central Conference announced its boys basketball honor squad recently.
The Mustangs, who tied Bark River-Harris for second place overall in the league with a 10-3 record, had a pair of Second Team players, juniors Cade Contreras and Alec Blank.
Three more Alger County players earned honorable mention — sophomore Jesse Mattson of Munising and juniors Beau Rondeau and Joe Heinonen of Superior Central.
Undefeated North Central had both players who shared the Player of the Year award — seniors Jason Whitens and Dawson Bilski.
Their coach, Adam Mercier, was named Coach of the Year for 20-0 regular season and 13-0 conference marks.
The Jets also won the Team Sportsmanship Award while NC senior Seth Polfus was honored with the league Sportsmanship Award, and junior Ryan Arndt of Bark River-Harris was Free-Throw Champion.
