May Waters leads Negaunee High School gymnasts past Marquette at Peak meet

MARQUETTE — May Waters of Negaunee High School was a decisive all-around champion at the Reach Your Peak Invitiational high school gymnastics meet held by Peak Gymnastics and Fitness on Saturday in Marquette.

Waters totaled 32.16 points while winning the vault with a score of 8.43, Bars with 7.65 and beam with 7.98. She was also fifth in floor exercise with 8.1.

The Miners also won the team competition with 125.5 points while Marquette had 99.0. Superior 7, the seven-school cooperative from the Copper Country, had to pull out due to illness.

Negaunee’s Kylar Kallioinen was second in the all-around with 31.30 while teammate Kalli Mattson was third with 29.08. Marquette’s Enola Jeevar (28.75) was fourth, Kiah Staley (28.23) fifth and Tauni Camilli (26.95) sixth.

Negaunee’s Skylar Taavola won the floor exercise with 8.45, while Jeevar tied Negaunee’s Kelsi Cox for second with 8.3.
