Ishpeming-Negaunee boys, Manistique girls win at Polar Bear Plunge high school swimming and diving meet

NEGAUNEE — Three swimmers each won a pair of individual events as the Ishpeming-Negaunee boys and Manistique girls repeated as winners at this year’s Polar Bear Plunge at Negaunee High School on Tuesday.

The I-N boys won their fifth straight title by scoring 95 points, well ahead of runner-up Westwood with 59 and Manistique with 14.

The Emeralds won a much closer race in the girls meet for their third straight win in this meet. Manistique totaled 78 points to 71 for Westwood and 69 for I-N.

I-N’s Ethan Wallner and Coltin Chapman each won two individual events and swam with the victorious 200-yard freestyle relay. Wallner captured the 50 free and 50 butterfly, while Chapman took the 50 backstroke and 100 free.

In the girls meet, Manistique’s Abby Burnham took the diving and 50 free.
