Led by double victories from Seaborg, the Redmen swept the top four scoring places in both slalom and giant slalom races for a perfect score of 20 points at the Marquette Mountain Invitational on Tuesday. It marked the MSHS teams’ second and final regular-season home meet.

Ironwood was a distant runner-up with 77 points, while Norway was third with 111 and Houghton fourth with 121.

Despite not getting the individual giant slalom winner, the MSHS girls were nearly as good in their meet title, scoring 30 points to Houghton’s 48. Ironwood didn’t post a team score.

Seaborg cruised to an individual win of just shy of a second and a half in the slalom, while taking a much closer win of barely more than a quarter second in the GS.

He made runs of 38.80 and 38.11 seconds, the only sub-39-second runs of the day, in the slalom for a two-run time of 1:16.91, ahead of teammate Andrew Thomas, who came in as runner-up at 1:18.42, and Eric Gencheff, who was a close third in 1:18.59.

They had more than five seconds on everyone else, including fourth-place teammate Dylan Robinia, who clocked 1:24.14. The Redmen also claimed sixth place by Ashton Branam, 11th by Thomas Truckey and 15th by Keaton Jones.

In GS, Seaborg knocked out runs of 28.70 and 27.87 seconds for a total time of 56.57 seconds.

Gencheff and Thomas switched places from slalom, with Gencheff coming in second in 56.84 seconds, including the day’s fastest single GS run of 27.71, while Thomas was third in 58.60.

Teammate Aaron Grzelak was fourth in 1:00.00, Robinia fifth in 1:00.39 and Truman Durand sixth in 1:01.12. Also for MSHS, Branam was eighth, Jones ninth, Drake Scheidt 10th and Truckey 11th.

In the girls meet, Marquette’s Sadah Scheidt won the slalom in 1:25.95 with runs of 43.41 and 42.54 seconds, while Houghton’s Jenna Stein was runner-up in 1:26.37.

Marquette picked up third and fourth with Ainsley Kirk clocking 1:27.65 and Natalie Robinia 1:28.26. Amelia Cole was the Redettes’ final scorer, sixth in 1:37.95, while teammate Haley Thams was seventh, Jenna Miller eighth and Claire Markey 13th.

In GS, Stein won in 59.13 on runs of 29.88 and 29.25 seconds. That beat Kirk by not quite a second and a half after runs of 30.80 and 29.68 gave her a time of 1:00.48.

In addition, the Redettes’ Jacey Johnson was third in 1:01.18, Robinia fifth in 1:02.20 and Scheidt sixth in 1:04.05. Also from MSHS, Cole was seventh, Miller eighth and Thams ninth.

Next up is the final Upper Peninsula regular-season meet at Big Powderhorn in Bessemer on Thursday.
