Republic-Michigamme Hawks girls basketball team gets long-awaited win

HANNAHVILLE — It’s been a long time coming for the Republic-Michigamme High School girls basketball team, but on Thursday night, the Hawks finally got a win.

The Hawks started rolling in the second quarter and didn’t look back en route to a 47-23 win over Hannahville. Taylor Kaminen led a balanced R-M scoring attack with 15 points, while Tailyn Raisanen had 10 for the Hawks.

“This feels really good and the girls needed it,” R-M head coach April Radcliffe said about her team’s first win since the 2014-15 season. “It’s hard to go to practice when you aren’t winning, so it was great to see us jiving tonight.

“We worked the low post well and the girls turned and made some nice shots. It’s been a rough couple of weeks, so we needed this.”

Up only by three points after one quarter, the Hawks (1-7) outscored the Soaring Eagles 17-4 in the second period to earn a double-digit advantage.

The Hawks host Dollar Bay tonight.
