Ishpeming Hematites’ girls basketball depth wears down Manistique Emeralds in 78-25 victory

ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming girls basketball team jumped out early and was able to get all 10 of its players significant playing time in a 78-25 victory over Manistique on Friday night.

Every Hematite made a basket as IHS raced to leads of 23-8 after one quarter and 43-16 by halftime.

“(We had) a solid first half (and were) able to push us to a nice lead going in to half,” Ishpeming head coach Ryan Reichel said. “Being able to cycle girls in helped us wear on them.”

The Emeralds had just seven players suited up for the game.

Hematites senior guard Khora Swanson led all scorers with 21 points, while junior Madigan Johns added 13 and senior Marissa Maino and junior Mariah Austin had 10 points apiece.

Manistique was paced by junior Madison Berry’s 13 points.
