MARQUETTE - Local veterans will get a glimpse of the past at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday when vintage automobiles will be on display.
The veterans home is located at 425 Fisher St. in Marquette
Harry Hannula of Harvey is a member of the Pasty Club, which he said meets once a month to eat the famous Upper Peninsula dish. However, the club also puts on the annual vintage auto show for the Jacobetti vets.
Cars displayed by the Pasty Club at a car show and cruise at the Westwood Mall in Marquette Township in 2012 are shown. The club will be showing its classic cars, along with Model A’s from the Superior A’s Model A Club, Wednesday at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette. (Journal file photo)
Hannula will show off his 1931 Oakland, which he noted he's had since 1958.
Hannula said the show will have a little bit of everything, including the vintage Marquette Township fire truck, a 1937 Studebaker.
The Superior A's Model A Club, which focuses on Model A Fords from the 1928-31 era, also is expected to have a few cars on hand, Hannula said.
The show is for the vets' benefit, according to Hannula.
"They seem to enjoy it," he said. "They talk about it and say, 'I remember this one.'"
Tina Lynch, Jacobetti director of nursing, said in many cases, the veterans had driven or had ridden in some of the vehicles on display in the past.
"Usually, it brings back a lot of memories for the guys," Lynch said.
The show is free and open to the public.
