NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI. - William Thomas Langson, 80, of County Road 510, Negaunee Township, died peacefully at home Thursday afternoon, February 13, 2014 under the loving care of his family and U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
Bill was born February 2, 1934 in Negaunee to William F. and Viola N. (Olgren) Langson, graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1951, and was a lifelong Negaunee area resident. In his younger years, he worked as a truck driver for Cohodas Trucking in Ishpeming and also for Standard Oil.
He then worked as an underground miner and welder at the Tracy Mine, and finally was employed at the Marquette Branch Prison where he retired with 28 years of service.
Bill was a life member of the Negaunee Eagles where he served as a past president, V.A. Romo Post #3165 Negaunee V.F.W. Auxiliary, Negaunee Masonic Lodge, the Negaunee Elks, was a charter member of the Negaunee Rod and Gun Club, and belonged to the Central Upper Peninsula Sporting Club and the Marquette Branch Prison Employee Club. In his free time, Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting pool with his buddies, and swimming at Northern Michigan University.
Surviving are his children, Carolee Ann Trudell and Mark Allan Langson, both of Conway, MI; 7 grandchildren: William, Connie, Don, Derek, Ricky Jr., Robert and Thomas; 8 great-grandchildren; 5 sisters: Carol Joki, Viola Liubakka, Sally (Earl) McNally, Corrine Hillis and Lois Hill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elta C. (Perry) Langson on March 26, 2012; 3 sons: William D., Allan D., and Daniel T. Langson; a daughter, Pamela Joy Langson; a brother, Fred Langson; and 3 sisters: Eunice Hebert, Florence Houseman and Arlene Thexton.
A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm on Sunday evening, February 16 at the Koskey Funeral Home, and funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday morning, February 17th, at the Evergreen Christian Church, 44 Snowfield Road, Negaunee Township, with Rev. D. Michael Carriere officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. Pallbearers will be William V. Langson, Ricky Trudell, Jr., Robert and Thomas Trudell, Randy Joki and Ron Collins.
