ESCANABA - For the last quarter century, the Delta County Historical Society has opened the doors of the Sand Point Lighthouse for everyone to enjoy during the two days following Christmas.
The society is keeping up that tradition this year, hosting its annual Sand Point Lighthouse holiday celebration from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
It serves as an opportunity for members of the community to share the warmth of holiday music, decorations and refreshments in the old-fashioned ambience of a historic place. After the rush of the season, many families enjoy showing the lighthouse to out-of-town guests, or just being together with children and friends in this special setting, organizers said.
This year, members and friends of the historical society are also invited to see the new facilities at the Delta County Historical Society John Beaumier Museum. Both the lighthouse and the museum are located in Ludington Park. There is no admission fee at either location during the holiday open house.
Anyone wishing to assist the society by donating Christmas cookies for the event is asked to bring them to the lighthouse either day of the event.
