David R. Pynnonen

NEGAUNEE, MI. - David Robert Pynnonen, 59, of 204 W. Peck St., Negaunee, died on Friday, October 18, 2013, at Bell Memorial Hospital, with his loving family by his side.

Dave was born October 24, 1953 in Ishpeming to Taito D. and Mary T. (Langlois) Pynnonen , was a graduate of Negaunee High School, Class of 1971, and was a lifelong Negaunee resident. He worked for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company as an electrician at the Empire Mine, retiring in 2009 with 37 years of service with the company.

Dave was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, camping, and being in the woods. He also enjoyed playing cribbage and pool, telling stories, watching football, and taking a sauna. He loved to taste and critique homemade deer sausage. He was a talented electrician, always willing to lend a helping hand to relatives and friends.

Surviving are two daughters: Beth Pynnonen and Kristy (Keith) Romback, both of Negaunee, one son, Michael (Rachel) Pynnonen of Naples, FL, his mother, Mary Pynnonen of Negaunee, 2 grandchildren: Tyler and Aubri Romback, two sisters: Donna (Mike) Vanstraten of Negaunee, Carol (Stephen) Luoma of Gwinn, one brother, Donald (Dyanne) Pynnonen of Marinette, WI, his former wife, Kristen Mowafy of Marquette, nieces and nephews: Ashley (Chris) Gobert, Amy (Jim) Finkbeiner, Steve (Shera) Luoma, Sara (Craig) Olive, Toni (Tom) Carriveau, great nephews: Jude and Leo Luoma, Lucas Olive, Ethan Luoma.

He was preceded in death by his father Taito D. Pynnonen on August5, 2005, two brothers-in-law: Mike Johnson and David "Veta" Nault, and his best friend Ron Snyder.

A celebration on Dave's life will be from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Wednesday at the Koskey Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Pynnonen, Keith Romback, Josh Menard, Gale LaCosse, and Art Collins.
