MARQUETTE - There's still plenty of time for anglers to register for the Marquette Bay Classic fishing tournament, which is set for next Saturday.

The final registration will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Marquette Mountain, where the captain's meeting will get under way at 7 p.m.

At least one member from each team participating in the classic must attend the captain's meeting, when tournament officials will go over the rules, hors-devours and beverages will be available and prize raffles will be held.

Sponsored by the South Shore Fishing Association, the classic offers four main categories - catch-and-release trout, catch-and-keep trout, catch-and-release salmon and catch-and-keep salmon.

The main change in the tourney for this year is elimination of the "wild card" category, which involved teams entering their biggest trout and salmon for a single $2,500 cash prize.

Instead, this year there will be a $1,000 cash prize for the biggest salmon caught and $1,000 for the biggest trout weighed in.

In addition, each category will pay the top five places this year, rather than the top three places as in previous years.
