BOW event set for Tourist Park

July 5, 2013
The Mining Journal

MARQUETTE - Mother-daughter pairs looking to spend a little time together outdoors this summer will have the chance to do just that July 13 during a Department of Natural Resources "Becoming an Outdoors-Woman" one-day kayaking and hiking program.

The $25 workshop is open to mothers of all ages, and daughters age 10 to 17. It will take place at Tourist Park in Marquette from 9 a.m. until roughly 3:15 p.m. An on-site cookout is included in the price.

"This workshop offers a great opportunity for moms and daughters to have a little fun, learn or improve on an outdoor skill, and spend some time together in a beautiful setting," said Sharon Pitz, DNR's U.P. coordinator for the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program.

"BOW class and workshop participants really enjoy themselves and walk away with a true sense of accomplishment at learning or honing an outdoor recreation skill."

Kayaks for the event are being donated by Downwind Sports in Marquette and Houghton.

For more information or to find registration materials, visit www.michigan.gov/bow, or contact Pitz at 228-8501 or pitzs@michigan.gov.
