MARQUETTE - To kick off the summer season, Fuel Rocks Munising is planned for June 1.
It's an event being presented by the Munising Visitors Bureau and Cameron Entertainment, featuring Fuel, the multi-platinum-selling national band, with some special guests joining the stage: Go Fight, which features Jim Marcus from The Swans, KMFDM, Pigface and Gravity Kills; singer Laura Wilde; local favorites Nudge; and Piq Pokett.
The concert will be at the Munising Ice Arena. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the show beginning at 7 p.m. that Saturday.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Alger County has been selected as "one of the 10 most breathtaking, off-the-beaten path parks in America" by Country magazine.
The magazine has a special 32-page section highlighting some of the country's "most beautiful, least-crowded" parks across the country.

n Concert for UPAWS
Bright Productions is putting on another concert, this one to benefit the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter.
"The theme of the concert is, of course, 'Animals'," said Bob Buchkoe, one of the events organizers, in an email. "The program will include classical pieces, such as Saint-Saens 'The Swan,' Grieg's 'Little Bird,' Copland's 'I Bought Me a Cat' and others."
Buchkoe said pop songs for the concert will include "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" (arranged like the original Tokens recording), "Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Hound Dog," "Aba Daba Honeymoon" and many others. Also featured will be some instrumentals like "Baby Elephant Walk," "The Pink Panther" and "Alley Cat."
The concert is for all ages and will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 15 in the Community Room of Peter White Public Library in Marquette. Admission will be free, but a collection will be taken for UPAWS.
Performers will include Stan Wright (vocals and guitar), Bob Buchkoe (piano, keyboard and ukulele), Caitlin Wright (vocals, viola and violin), Denise Dupras (vocals, guitar and piano), Eliza Compton (vocals and flute), Christopher Belles (vocals), Iris Oswald (vocals and ukulele), Ivy Oswald (vocals), Amanda Rose Matznick (vocals and piano), Lance Peterson (drums), and Jack Bowers (ukulele and assorted noisemakers) with Cres Koenigsknecht doing sound effects.
