RAPID RIVER - The Rapid River boys passed a major test Thursday, winning their own track invitational with 117 points. Runner-up North Dickinson scored 101, with Forest Park third at 63.

Among area teams, Superior Central and Munising shared fourth with 44 points apiece, while Grand Marais-Munising Baptist did not score.

Munising claimed two double winners - senior Lucas Gauthier in the 100-yard dash in 11.15 seconds and 200 in 23.13, and freshman Brett Hannah in the 1,600 (5:05.99) and 3,200 (11:00.15).

Superior Central senior Tyler Kienitz was also a two-time victor, taking the 800 in 2:17.29 and running a leg on the Cougars winning 3,200 relay, which finished in 9:15.51. His teammates in the relay were freshman Greg Seppanen and juniors Tucker Spranger and Nick Maki.

Senior Robert Metter was Rapid River's lone individual winner, soaring 11 feet, six inches in pole vault.

The Rockets, however, had second-place finishes in six events, including two each by junior Jake Pearson and freshman Dan Blair.

"We had enough depth to come through," said Rockets' coach Steve Ostrenga. "The weather conditions weren't the greatest, although it was the same for everybody."

North Dickinson junior Tim Hruska won the 110 (16.36) and 300 hurdles (44.3).

Mid Peninsula senior Brett Branstrom swept the weight events, taking shot put (47-6 1/2) and discus (133-5).

Forest Park won three relays. Chris Hilberg, who helped the 1600 unit, also won high jump at six feet.
