NEGAUNEE - Winning all eight matches in straight sets, the Negaunee High School boys tennis team shut out visiting Gwinn Tuesday, 8-0. The Miners of head coach Kyle Saari improved to 1-1 on the season with the triumph.
"Several (NHS) players picked up their first varsity win and that's good for confidence," Saari said, adding "Jake Paupore and Parker Bowman were consistent at No. 4 doubles."
Paupore and Bowman blanked the Modeltowners' Tommy Schmeltzer and Chris Stankowski, 6-0, 6-0.
Perhaps the closest match of the day came at No. 2 doubles, where Alex Roth and Stephen Twawick outlasted Gwinn's Erik Asplund and Mason Bruce, 6-2, 7-6 (6).
