Fourth-graders from Birchview Elementary School in Ishpeming enjoyed a day at Marquette Mountain Ski Area this week, where they not only hit the slopes for some skiing and snowboarding, above, but also learned about the operation of a ski hill. Included was a lesson on safety given by Ski Patrol member Andrew Bek, at left. The kids also had some lessons in math and science by learning about snow-making and other aspects of the ski resort. One class went to the hill Tuesday and one on Wednesday, with the visits sponsored by Marquette Mountain, while a grant from Cliffs Natural Resources covered the cost of busing the students and teachers.
