MARQUETTE - Marquette County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to two-vehicle accident Friday night on M-553.

The accident occurred at approximately 5:46 p.m. on M-553 in Sands Township, north of Station Road. According to police, a GMC pickup truck driven by Jason Denny, 41, of Gwinn was preparing to turn into the 533 Mobile Estates from the southbound lane when an Oldsmobile sedan driven by Alisha Hennigan, 21, of Skandia, also traveling south, rear-ended Denny's vehicle. The Hennigan vehicle was unable to stop before colliding with the pickup truck.

Neither driver was injured. A dog, U.P. 200 mascot Seamus, riding in the Oldsmobile, sustained an injury. He received 30 stitches and was reported to be resting comfortably.

Other cars went into the ditch while trying to avoid the accident.

According to police, the roads were very icy and snow covered, which contributed to the crash.

Assisting at the scene was MediRide, Sands Township Fire Department, Sands Township EMS and Forsyth Township Police Department.
